ModuleWorks, the leading supplier of CAD/CAM software components for machining and simulation, and Siemens AG, announce a product partnership that enables ModuleWorks real-time collision avoidance software to be used together with the Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl CNC controller.

Siemens PartnershipSiemens Partnership collision avoidance

The Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl is a high performance CNC controller for milling and turning applications, from grinding and laser machining to gearwheel machining and multi-tasking machining. The new partnership enables users to add the ModuleWorks collision avoidance software to the Siemens controller to provide real-time verification and clash detection during the milling or turning process.

The ModuleWorks software takes the real axis positions, machine geometries and workpiece position and uses the same motion data as the real servos to provide a fully integrated and visually realistic simulation of the machine kinematics, tools, jaws, clamps and fixtures as well as the material removal process. Collision detection and avoidance is available in both auto and jog modes using look-ahead motion data. If a collision is detected, the machining process is stopped before an actual collision occurs to prevent expensive machine damage and down-time.

“We are delighted with this product partnership that enables our customers to benefit from state-of-the-art collision detection and avoidance directly on our CNC controller”, says Mr. Uwe Ruttkamp, Vice President & Head of Business Segment Machine Tool Systems at Siemens AG. “The ModuleWorks software is an industry-proven technology that brings out the full potential of the SINUMERIK 840D sl controller to optimize the efficiency and quality of the machining process.”

“It’s great to see how our real-time collision detection and avoidance technology adds value to industry-leading CNC controllers”, says Yavuz Murtezaoglu, Managing Director of ModuleWorks. “We look forward to a continued and successful cooperation with Siemens that will enable users to benefit from the synergy of our technologies.”
